Books ๐Ÿ“š

  • I kinda went on a bit of a reading binge over the past week, reading the initial six books of the Aegis of Merlin series. This was another one of those “Amazon recommends this” instances and I fell for it. That said, the books were highly addictive and I’m obviously going to keep reading them. ๐Ÿคญ

  • Finished reading: Death Incarnate by James E Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book seven of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

A robed figure wields a scythe facing a fire-breathing dragon amidst a fiery urban backdrop. Text: 'DEATH INCARNATE, THE AEGIS OF MERLIN - BOOK 7, JAMES E. WISHER'
  • Finished reading: The Four Nations Tournament by James E. Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book six of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

Two characters with magical powers face off against a cityscape at night. Text reads: 'FOUR NATIONS TOURNAMENT - THE AEGIS OF MERLIN - BOOK 6 - JAMES E. WISHER.'
  • Finished reading: Wrath of the Dragon Czar by James E. Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book five of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

A blue-skinned creature confronts a man emitting fire from his hands, with a woman looking shocked in the background. Text reads 'WRATH OF THE DRAGON CZAR, THE AEGIS OF MERLIN, BOOK 5, JAMES E. WISHER'.
  • Finished reading: The Raven’s Shadow by James E. Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book four of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

A person on a balcony conjures fire with their hands against a futuristic city backdrop. Text: 'THE RAVENS SHADOW THE AEGIS OF MERLIN - BOOK 4 JAMES E. WISHER'.
  • Finished reading: The Chimera Jar by James E Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book three of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

A person stands facing a massive, two-headed creature with fiery and icy elements, in a dark, forested backdrop. Text: 'THE CHIMERA JAR THE AEGIS OF MERLIN - BOOK 3 JAMES E. WISHER'.
  • Finished reading: The Awakening by James E. Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book two of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

A person stands with arms outstretched, conjuring orange flames from his hands against a dark, stormy backdrop. Text: 'THE AWAKENING THE AEGIS OF MERLIN - BOOK 2 JAMES E. WISHER'.
  • Finished reading: The Impossible Wizard by James E Wisher ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Book one of the Aegis of Merlin, I rather enjoyed it.

A young man rides a motorcycle, wielding magic, chased by monstrous creatures in an urban nighttime setting. Text: 'THE IMPOSSIBLE WIZARD - THE AEGIS OF MERLIN - BOOK 1 - JAMES E. WISHER'

  • Finished reading: Resistance Above Magic 2 by B.T. Narro ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†

The second book in the series, it was good to see where the story went but the cliffhanger was rather annoying; I guess I’ll have to wait for the next book. ๐Ÿคฃ

A figure casts a spell, conjuring a fiery torrent and a watery shield amidst a field of skulls. Text: 'RESISTANCE ABOVE MAGIC, A LITRPG ADVENTURE, 2, B.T. NARRO, BEATRIX GRINN'
  • Finished reading: Unexpected Healer by Jonathan Brooks ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†

This one randomly showed up as a suggested read on my Kindle and I decided to give it a shot. It was pretty one dimensional but highly entertaining…and it set the stage for an interesting series (if the author continues, of course).

A man generates a glowing blue light between his hands, seated in a cave-like setting with a lit torch and treasure chest. The text reads: 'UNEXPECTED HEALER - A FANTASY LitRPG ISEKAI ADVENTURE - EARTHEN CONTENDERS BOOK 1 - JONATHAN BROOKS'.
  • Finished reading: The Gorgon Incident and Other Stories by John Bierce ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

Having finished the Mage Errant series last year, it was rather nice to go back to the same world / universe, to revisit and reminisce.

An orange octopus-like creature emerges amidst ruins and water, tentacles grasping floating swords. Cover for 'THE GORGON INCIDENT AND OTHER STORIES: A MAGE ERRANT ANTHOLOGY' by John Bierce.
  • Finished reading: The Price Of Power by B. K. Cook ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†

The last book of the series (though, the author makes it pretty clear they’ll be continuing the books), this one felt a little rushed and you could see the ending coming a mile away but it was still a satisfying conclusion.

A cloaked figure and a lion approach a large tree against a mountainous backdrop at dusk. Text: 'THE PRICE OF POWER BOOK 3 OF THE ILAMANTIUM SAGA B.K. COOK'
  • Finished reading: In Clawed Grasp by Seth Richter ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†

I went into this not expecting much but wow, was I surprised: this book was great. The “leveling system” is both more and less well-defined than many other books in the LitRPG genre, which is awesome. I can’t wait for the second one! ๐Ÿ˜„

A book cover with stylized text 'In Clawed Grasp' and the author name 'Seth Richter' features a dark circle with an orange halo and a silhouetted bat-like creature (a gargoyle)
  • Finished reading: Resistance Above Magic by B.T. Narro ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†

I wouldn’t call it “great literature” but it was a fun read, very much reminding me of my time playing WoW, with all the talk about skill trees, leveling, & stat bonuses from gear. ๐ŸŽฎ

A person in red cape and medieval attire is floating above a fantasy landscape with castles. Text reads 'RESISTANCE ABOVE MAGIC A LITRPG ADVENTURE B.T. Narro Beatrix Grinn'.
  • Finished reading: Rune Seeker 2 by J.M. Clarke & C.J. Thompson ๐Ÿ“š
    โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜†

The second book of the series, this follows up directly to the ending of the last one…and boy, does it deliver. This one couldn’t exist without the first but it’s much better; we finally get some (fascinating) backstory. ๐Ÿ—ก๏ธ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

A robed figure wields a sword, with a glowing ring above; amidst a brilliant explosion of light; the book cover reads 'RUNE SEEKER 2' by J.M. CLARKE & C.J. THOMPSON.
