Schleswig-Holstein looks to succeed where Munich failed.
Itβs funny, I remember reading about Munichβs effort to move away from Windows back in the day; itβs funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same. π€£

π “So violated”: Wyze cameras leak footage to strangers for 2nd time in 5 months
It seemed neat at first, when it was a random coffee machine or vending machine hooked up just to prove it could be done. But between then and now, we've learned that the Internet is full of relentless a$$holes (at best) who will take advantage of any little crack in security.
…
IMO, stop trying. Accept that the Internet is a dangerous place. Have fun with all the smart home tech you want, but keep it local.
I love the Ars comment section, it’s always a delight. Also, this is why I have no cameras @ home. π€£

Finally got around to installing an “extender” SATA card into my media server, to add more drives…and of course, it doesn’t work. π€ πΎ π·

Maybe I’m in the minority but I really don’t care about Apple Vision Pro… π€·πΌββοΈ

Just used an Apple Shortcut created by @jarrod to use OpenIA to generate image descriptions for alt text. π Very cool and will be using it on conjunction with another Shortcut (for Micro.blog uploading) in the future. I keep forgetting I can use Shortcuts for scripting instead of C#. π€£

Migrated 18TB of data from one server to another and even though the βnewβ server has redundancy, Iβm still hesitating to click βdeleteβ on the old server… π€£

So, I did a thing last night…I finally moved to a new server case. ππ·
It took far longer to get started than I though it would and I ended up with a bloody hand (it’s a very nice case but that metal is sharp π€£)…and I haven’t installed case fans yet but…the server is back online and running!

I was going to spend my lunch break working on creating a single-page app, to bulk-upload photos to Micro.blog but…I ended up throwing in the towel and just wrote a
C#
script instead. It still makes me happy Microsoft open sourced.Net
and it runs natively on the Mac. π€π #HappyGeek -
Follow-Up (Part 2): I was trying to listen to some Holiday music this morning, only to realize none of my Sonos speakers worked with AirPlay. After digging online, it turns out the only way to get a Sonos speaker back into HomeKit after the home is deleted is to factory reset the Sonos. π±π

Follow-Up: I think my HomeKit set up is mostly back to normal. I was a little stupid and didn’t take backups / exports…so I lost some historical data (mostly temperature / humidity / air quality) but at least my Holiday automations are working again. ππ

My HomeKit set up has been rock-solid for years but the minute I added a Matter plug (the “Meross Matter Smart Plug Mini”), everything breaks…and as it’s Apple land, where everything works perfectly until it doesn’t, fixing it is going to be…unpleasant. π±π

Follow-Up: The IKEA Sonos speaker is working perfectly (which is more than I could ever say of the HomePod Mini stereo set up) this morning; holiday music is flooding the room whilst I’m debugging some legacy Java code. π€π (Yes, I had a spare speaker lying around… π€£) π·

Default Apps and Services of 2023
It seems like a lot of folks have been writing about the default apps / services they use and while I’m late to the game, here is my list…at least for 2023. π€£ I did a little tweak to the format everyone seems to be using: I split up my home and work life, as I do my best to keep things β¦ read more

Moved 18.3 TB of data from my Storage server to my Media server; gotta love the “
rsync -va --progress
” command! π»π€ #HappyGeek -
I realize I have an old Kindle (it’s the first version of the Paperwhite) but would it really be so hard for Amazon to auto-sync the time on the device like every other network connected device in the modern age? π€£
